Is Due Process Obsolete? Houston Astros Pitcher Faces Assault Charge

Astros pitcher charged with domestic assault

The Houston Astros made a recent trade to acquire former Blue Jays pitcher Roberto Osuna. This trade was met with controversy due to Osuna’s recent charge of domestic assault in Canada.

While Osuna, because of due process, isn’t considered guilty until proven so, many media outlets took the opportunity to share their disgust with domestic violence, with Osuna as the target.

While domestic assault should certainly be condemned at all levels, often frenzied stories can leave a mark on reputations before due process, investigation and trial are carried out. These marks can travel with an individual for the rest of their lives, even if they are found innocent.
