Around 2.9 million workplace injuries were reported in 2015, which (believe it or not) is down from the previous year.
This number is trending downward which may be the result of employers ramping up their safety training and employees putting this information into practice diligently.
Clearly, there’s still plenty of improvements to be made though if nearly three million American workers are continually injured each year. Of these workplace injuries, the five listed below were the most common:
1. Overexertion Injuries
Overexertion includes injuries related to pushing, pulling, lifting and so on. It happens to be the number one workplace injury and also the most expensive.
2. Slipping or Tripping
An accidental spill or a misplaced tool are two of many things that can cause slipping or tripping on the job, with the result being injuries from the fall.
3. Falls in the Workplace
Falls from roofs are most common on construction sites, but falls happen from ladders and stairways in other places of work as well, resulting in some of the worst injuries.
4. Reaction Injuries
When someone’s slip or trip results in a fall, it’s easy to see why they were injured. But how about a slip or trip that does not result in a fall? Sometimes when we react to a situation, muscles tighten up, making you more prone to injury. With this type of injury, you may not experience pain until a few hours or even a day later.
5. Falling Objects Injuries
Falling objects can result in serious head injuries, among other things. These could be objects falling from shelves or objects dropped by someone.
All too often, workplace injuries are caused by another’s negligence. It’s important to make sure we all use proper protection equipment, follow all safety rules and regulations, and remain aware of our surroundings in order to prevent potential hazards.
